We recently sat down with one of our sponsered Pro BMX riders, Brandon Cato, who hails from Oakland, CA and races with team 510 Bay Area Bmxers . We asked him questions on what drives and inspires him.

ESNTL: We all have our good days and days we wish we could start over. When you're training, what goes through your head and keeps you motivated and pushing always forward?

BRANDON: When I'm going through one of my down days, I try to remember what it feels like to "feel great" again . I tell myself that nothing lasts forever and it's only temporary. But what really gets me going, is studying race videos that I've done really well in just to remind myself who I really am and what I am capable of doing once I leave this down state of mind.

ESNTL: So you've realized that life goes on and learning from your mistakes as well as your success's keeps you moving forward.

BRANDON: Absolutely. The more you learn, the more you earn, is the way I feel about life's situations

ESNTL: Do you still have idols in the BMX world that you admire and draw inspiration from as well, or do you focus on your own game and just do what comes naturally?

BRANDON: Yes, the G.O.A.T of BMX, in my opinion has to go to "Mario Soto" . I watch all of his videos still to this day. I say he is my idol because he was the type of rider who always raced from beginning to the end! He would get a bad start in most races and would still soldier on just to get the "W". Even though I really didn't get the opportunity to have a conversation with him due to him passing away at a young age, I still cherish that one moment when my dad introduced me to him, that moment has always been and will always remain in my memories and heart until I meet him again. Whenever I enter the gate, the first thing that goes through my head is, "What would Mario do?"

ESNTL: Awesome. Now I've seen that not only are you highly involved in the competitions  but you seem to be highly involved in the BMX community as a whole. You're involved with teaching the youth and helping to nurture the next generation of the sport.o These kids look up to you, much like you look up to Mario. What advice do you have to the next generation?

BRANDON: My advice to them is never be afraid to take it to the next level. Get used to being out of your comfort zone and do not settle for being just average . Just like my idol, he wasn't just Mario ... He was "Super Mario" because he was never afraid of taking it to that next level and beyond ! If you feel like there isn't a way, find one . Never think just because you are less fortunate than the next person you can't do as much as that person . It's not where you are from, it's where you are going. I also wanna add that you can never ask too many questions . The more questions you ask the more you will find out . If you're ever unclear, research for yourself .
